27TH-31ST OCTOBER 2016 PORTLAOISE
About David O’Doherty
To date O’Doherty still emphasizes that he is a writer more than a comedian, “Comedian is a ridiculous occupation. On the scale of respectful occupations it ranks close to balloon animalist. When someone asked what I did, I’d say in a pompous voice, I write. And when they asked what I wrote and I’d have to say vignettes. Then they’d ask what I did with my vignettes, and I’d have to admit that I spoke them into microphones for money.” To date, O’Doherty has performed at festivals in Melbourne, Montreal, New York and Wellington. He is currently writing a book with Claudia O’Doherty and Mike Ahern called 100 Facts About Pandas that will be published in 2009. He is also about to undertake his first solo stand up tour of the UK. His least favorite film of all time is the Star Wars prequels. O’Doherty describes the trilogy as entertainment that tarnishes fond childhood memories, like peeing in a toybox.
